What’s new in VelvetSpeak 0.6.3

Notes from the closed beta

VelvetSpeak 0.6.3 is a focused update to the moments around a live conversation: choosing when to begin, knowing when help is ready, following what just happened, and keeping Lines in step with the conversation.

Starting is now an explicit choice

On your G2, tapping Start now opens the Lens chooser first—even if VelvetSpeak remembers the Lens you used last time. The microphone stays off and no session begins until you choose a Lens. If you back out, VelvetSpeak returns to idle without saving an empty conversation.

The phone now shows a clear Starting session state instead of a blank area. Once you’re live, the top of the screen uses a compact header, with full usage details still available under Readiness.

A Live view that follows the conversation

The phone Live screen now shows a calm, color-coded activity timeline. You’ll see Partner, You, and Speaker entries as each turn finishes, plus Suggestion Used when you select a Line or mark a Draft as said.

If VelvetSpeak cannot tell who spoke, the entry says Speaker instead of guessing. The timeline stays short and focused on the current session, so it remains useful while the conversation keeps moving.

The lightbulb now makes one clear promise

We simplified the glasses lightbulb cue. It now represents help that is ready to serve, so a swipe down can open the suggestion. You will no longer see an outline bulb just because a question was heard or an answer is still being prepared.

Lines that keep up, and a simpler Draft

Before showing the next set, Lines now checks whether the conversation has moved on. When an update is needed, you’ll see Updating lines… instead of briefly seeing suggestions from an older moment. Once a set is on screen, VelvetSpeak still leaves it alone while you’re reading.

Draft is now a straightforward On or Off setting. The old Questions only option has been retired; if you used it before, Draft will be set to Off. We also removed the unhelpful Draft unavailable card and fixed a case where a single spoken turn arriving in several pieces could cancel a Draft already in progress.

Draft remains cautious when VelvetSpeak cannot confidently identify the other person’s turn. Because its behavior and disclosure have changed, you’ll be asked once to review the updated disclosure the next time you start a live session.

Draft feedback is also kept with the session where you gave it, so it cannot shape the Wrap for a later conversation.

Debug, without the wall of diagnostics

For testers who use it, Debug now has a cleaner layout. It opens with an overview of current Brain, Transcript, and G2 health, while deeper diagnostics are grouped into six focused sections: Session & AI, Logs, G2 & HUD, Proof & Capture, Release & Backend, and Safety Controls.

The detail is still there, without one long screen.

Small changes, one calmer experience

0.6.3 is mostly about making VelvetSpeak more honest and predictable: it waits for your choice before listening, shows a cue only when help is ready, keeps Lines aligned with the conversation, and makes the phone Live view useful while you’re wearing the glasses.

Thanks for testing it in real conversations. If anything still feels confusing, late, or out of place, email support@velvetspeak.com.
