Social and Work defaults
These three choices are shared by a family. Change Social and every Social Lens follows it; change Work and every Work Lens follows it.
Suggestion LengthSets how compact or detailed VelvetSpeak aims to make each suggestion.Phone: You → Settings → Social or Work · Glasses: main menu → Settings → LengthStart: Medium
- Find it
- Phone: You → Settings → Social or Work · Glasses: main menu → Settings → Length
- Applies to
- Every Lens in the selected Social or Work family
Choices
- MinThe shortest useful suggestion for a quick glance.
- MediumA speakable answer with enough context for most moments.
- LongMore detail when the answer genuinely needs it.
Good to know: The phone label is Suggestion Length; the glasses row is Length. Long can still produce a short answer when that is all the moment needs.
Max CardsCaps how many cards one answer may use on the glasses.Phone: You → Settings → Social or Work · Glasses: main menu → Settings → Max cardsStart: 5
- Find it
- Phone: You → Settings → Social or Work · Glasses: main menu → Settings → Max cards
- Applies to
- Every Lens in the selected Social or Work family
Choices
- 1Keeps each answer to a single card.
- 3Allows a little more room without a long sequence.
- 5The balanced ceiling for most conversations.
- 10Leaves room for the longest supported answers.
Good to know: This is a hard ceiling, not a target. VelvetSpeak stops as soon as the answer is complete and never pads it to fill the allowance.
CoachLets VelvetSpeak offer an occasional private nudge when it spots a useful coaching moment.Phone: You → Settings → Social or Work · Glasses: main menu → Settings → CoachStart: Off
- Find it
- Phone: You → Settings → Social or Work · Glasses: main menu → Settings → Coach
- Applies to
- Every Lens in the selected Social or Work family
Choices
- OffNo situational Coach nudges.
- OnAllows short, situational coaching cues during a live session.
Good to know: Humor still follows the Social family Coach choice, but its glasses Settings page omits the Coach row. Change Social → Coach on the phone when you want to adjust it for Humor.
Lens-specific style
These controls appear only for the Lens named below. They change its voice without changing the other Lenses.

Device and live behavior
These choices control session language, what the glasses show, when answers are prepared, and which microphone listens.
LanguageChooses the language used for transcription, answers, and session menus.Phone: You → Settings → Device → LanguageStart: English
- Find it
- Phone: You → Settings → Device → Language
- Applies to
- The whole app; a change applies when the next session starts
Choices

- EspañolSpanish transcription, answers, and session menus.
- FrançaisFrench transcription, answers, and session menus.
- DeutschGerman transcription, answers, and session menus.
- ItalianoItalian transcription, answers, and session menus.
- 中文Chinese transcription, answers, and session menus.
- 日本語Japanese transcription, answers, and session menus.
- 한국어Korean transcription, answers, and session menus.
Good to know: The picker is disabled during a live or inactivity-paused session. End the session, choose a language, then start the next one. The phone app's surrounding navigation remains in English.
Show transcript on glassesShows or hides the recent transcript on the Listening screen.Phone: You → Settings → Device · Glasses: main menu → Settings → TranscriptStart: On
- Find it
- Phone: You → Settings → Device · Glasses: main menu → Settings → Transcript
- Applies to
- The whole app; the phone and glasses change the same choice
Choices
- OnShows recent words when there is room on the display.
- OffKeeps the Listening screen visually quieter.
Good to know: This is app-global, not per-Lens. It changes display visibility only—it does not stop transcription, cards, alerts, or menus.
Get answers ready earlyStarts preparing after a question so swipe-down help can be ready immediately.Phone: You → Settings → DeviceStart: On
- Find it
- Phone: You → Settings → Device
- Applies to
- The whole app
Choices
- OnPrepares likely help early for faster swipe-down answers.
- OffWaits until you explicitly ask before preparing an answer.
Live microphone sourceChooses which microphone supplies audio for live transcription.Phone: You → Settings → Device → SoundStart: Glasses mic
- Find it
- Phone: You → Settings → Device → Sound
- Applies to
- The whole app
Choices
- Glasses micUses the G2 microphone and is the normal live-use choice.
- Phone micUses the phone microphone for the live session.
Good to know: Recalibrate microphone is a nearby test action, not a third source. It checks the source currently selected.
Memory and privacy
Choose what the app keeps after a session, whether it may make a recap, and whether a summary is saved to VelvetSpeak's servers.
Memory CaptureControls how much useful session material VelvetSpeak keeps for later.Phone: You → Settings → Device → Data & privacyStart: First-run chooser: Standard
- Find it
- Phone: You → Settings → Device → Data & privacy
- Applies to
- The whole app; applies to future capture
Choices
- MinimalKeeps session time, duration, and Lens, but no conversation content.
- StandardKeeps useful summaries, takeaways, facts, and captured items without keeping full transcripts.
- FullKeeps all available session material, including transcripts, on this device.
Good to know: Standard is preselected in the first-run chooser; it is not a promise that every existing install currently has Standard saved. Changing the choice does not erase older data—use Wipe All for that.
Meeting notes & coachingAllows the finished transcript to be processed for a recap or Coach review.Phone: You → Settings → Device → Data & privacyStart: On
- Find it
- Phone: You → Settings → Device → Data & privacy
- Applies to
- The whole app; applies when future sessions end
Choices
- OnAllows recap and Coach-review processing after a session.
- OffSkips that end-of-session processing.
Good to know: This does not turn live suggestions off. Session memory sync also requires this setting because its commitments, moments, and lesson come from the recap.
Session memory syncOptionally saves a summary of each new session on VelvetSpeak's servers.Phone: You → Settings → Device → Data & privacyStart: Off
- Find it
- Phone: You → Settings → Device → Data & privacy
- Applies to
- What is saved on VelvetSpeak's servers, not what live coaching reads
Choices
- OffSession summaries stay on this device. Turning sync off deletes the server copy while local sessions remain.
- OnSaves recap, outcome, commitments, key moments, the lesson, and captured items for each new session.
Good to know: Meeting notes & coaching must be On. There is no backfill: older sessions are not uploaded. Audio and transcripts are never saved there, but the summary is readable text rather than end-to-end encrypted. Live coaching still uses saved people, notes, and the Scene during a session; that context is processed to generate coaching, not stored, and Memory Capture controls how much is included. VelvetSpeak keeps the newest 100 synced summaries for at most 12 months. Turning sync off deletes the server copy.
Still not sure what to choose?
